Upon arrival, deputies said they located human remains in a wooded area across from the caller's yard. The remains were sent to UNC Health in Wayne County then will be sent to the North Carolina Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for analysis and identification.
A spokesperson with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office said that some remains were found originally, and then additional remains were found on the same property in a different area.
"There has been no determination that they are from two individuals," the spokesperson said to CBS 17. "Most likely just one individual."
Deputies said there was a call just weeks before where remains were found in the same area around 4:11 p.m. on November 20. According to deputies, those remains were also sent to the same Chief Medical Examiner's office for analysis.
Deputies said they believe the two findings are connected.
