A person was arrested after trying to climb the temporary fence near the White House this weekend, according to a Secret Service spokesperson.
The spokesperson said in a statement to The Hill that Secret Service Uniformed Division officers spotted a person who was trying to jump over the temporary anti-scale fencing in the vicinity of the White House at around 11 a.m. local time on Saturday.
The fence is present around the site just over a month before the next presidential inauguration.
The individual was “quickly taken into custody and arrested for Unlawful Entry,” the spokesperson wrote, adding the person “did not breach the fence and there was no impact to any protectees.”
The federal agency’s spokesperson said the individual was transported to the Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia for processing.
The Metropolitan Police Department, when reached for further comment, said the case is “being handled by United States Secret Service.”
In late May 2017, the Secret Service arrested a person who attempted to jump over the barricade close to the White House grounds.
“The individual was charged with unlawful entry and transported to the Metropolitan Police Department,” the Secret Service said at the time.
