Providence hosts Community Conversation on Education
Dec 14, 2024
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – Providence Mayor Brett Smiley is hosting a community conversation on education today.
The purpose of the discussion is to talk about the status of Providence Public Schools 5-years after the state took control of the district. The city’s goal is to hear from community members on progress and challenges the school district faces and to help the city get a better understanding as it prepares to regain control of the district.
This is the second of two meetings concerning the Providence Public Schools. The first was held in September. Today’s meeting is a follow up from the last community conversation.
In 2019, the State of Rhode Island assumed control of managing the Providence Public Schools because the district was underperforming.
Today’s community conversation will run from 10AM to 12PM at the Juanita Sanchez Education Complex.
