'It's scary': Fire damages East Greenwich apartment building

EAST GREENWICH, R.I. (WPRI) — Crews in East Greenwich knocked down a fire at the Brookside Terrace apartments on South County Trail Saturday morning.
First responders were met with fire coming from the roof when they first arrived on scene.
An East Greenwich fire official at the scene told 12 News that 24 units were damaged but not all of the units were occupied.

Power and gas has been cut to the building, displacing residents.
Cory Spetrini lives in the building and witnessed the fire. "It's scary to see all the firemen, the smoke coming out, them braking the glass, the flames on top of the roof," he said. "Not knowing any details and just seeing that, it's scary."
One person was hurt and treated at the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
