Tip by SFPD helped FBI catch UnitedHealth CEO shooting suspect Luigi Mangione

(KRON) -- The San Francisco Police Department sent a tip that helped the FBI identify the man suspected of killing the CEO of UnitedHealth, the FBI confirmed Friday.
The tip was "regarding the possible identity of the suspect." The FBI referred the tip, along with other leads, to the New York Police Department.
A citizen eventually recognized the suspect in Altoona, Penn., where he was arrested. He was identified as 26-year-old Luigi Mangione.

The FBI did not share any specific information about the tip received by SFPD.
Mangione has some connections to the Bay Area -- a man named Luigi Mangione was employed by Stanford for several months in 2019.
He was also reported missing by his mother to SFPD less than a month before the assassination.
Mangione is currently in custody on suspicion of killing UnitedHealth CEO Brian Thompson in Midtown Manhattan.
