ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — The gift of giving is still ongoing and one Patient at Rochester General is feeling extra thankful because of it.
Miguel Nieves has been in the hospital since October 21st, and is getting ready to go home because of a generous donation.
He just underwent surgery for a tumour on his spine. He told News 8 that it was unexpected, and just thought he felt sore because of the gym.
His doctors did imaging on him and saw the mass.
But a goal of his was to make it home, back to Geneva, for Christmas.
A partnership between local accessibility organizations, Endless Highway, NU Motion and Liv Home, made it happen.
David Hebert with Nu Motion said they provided the multipower chair, and the others helped get the ramp set up ensuring easy access.
Nieves said he has two kids at home, ages 10, and 12, and all he wants to do is be able to play outside with them, even if it's in the chair.
If he did not have the equipment provided by these companies, at age 32, he would have had to spend the holiday in a nursing home.
