GRANBY, Mass. (WWLP) - A retail pharmacy in Granby, who allegedly submitted false claims to MassHealth, reached a settlement agreement, according to the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office. In a news release from the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office, Center Pharmacy in Granby is ordered to pay over $230,000 to resolve allegations of false billing to MassHealth, the state’s Medicaid program. In 2023 MassHealth reimbursed up to $1,600 per claim for the prescription vitamin Profola. During the Attorney General's investigation, it is alleged that Granby’s Center Pharmacy took advantage of this offer. Joann’s fabric and craft store in Holyoke set to close Seventy-two claims were submitted by Center Pharmacy for the expensive vitamins, which the AG's office says were not requested by members of MassHealth. Within a three-month timeframe, MassHealth reimbursed the pharmacy over $116,000. On December 11th a settlement was reached with the AG's office for the alleged conduct that violated the Massachusetts False Claims Act and the Medicaid False Claims Statute. Center Pharmacy is ordered to pay over $230,000 in restitution to the Commonwealth and implement a three-year independent compliance monitoring program at their own expense.
