ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A man accused of setting fire to an Old Town restaurant this year will not go to trial but has a hearing scheduled next month to find out if he can be released. Steve Maestas is accused of causing $20,000 in damage to the High Noon Restaurant and Saloon in May.

Surveillance video caught a man lighting the fire and then showed the fire getting out of control which melted the camera. Police said that man was Maestas who was charged with a single count of arson.
He was given a competency review and court records show he has a dangerousness hearing scheduled for January 24. That hearing is set for people deemed incompetent to stand trial and the court will discuss whether he is too dangerous to release.
