SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) -- Roads could become slippery in eastern KELOLAND. Freezing rain and light snow are in the forecast overnight. Storm Center Update: Light wintry mix starts Friday night in southeastern KELOLAND Recent dashcam video from a Michigan Sheriff's office is a good reminder about why you should be extra careful when winter weather hits. First responders were at the scene of a crash Thursday morning in Kalamazoo County when a box truck slammed into a firetruck. Other emergency vehicles were also hit. Back in KELOLAND, roads could also get dicey with freezing rain expected. Sgt. Scott Dubbe with the Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office says remember to take your time behind the wheel. "Leave early if you need to get somewhere at a specific time. Make sure your car is gassed up, cell phone is charged. Maybe bring a winter blanket along, some snacks, water just in case you happen to get stranded," Dubbe said. Meanwhile, the city of Sioux Falls has crews ready to go to handle a wintry mix on the streets. "We'll have crews kind of stay late into the evening and we'll have another crew come in at midnight and they'll work all the way until noon tomorrow and hopefully it's out of here and we can get out of here as well," Sioux Falls Street Operations Manager Dustin Hansen said. The biggest concern Friday night is the ice. That's why city of Sioux Falls crews are prepared to put down de-icing material on streets across the city. "If you don't have to be out on the streets late at night, try not to be," Hansen said. While the Sioux Falls area is still waiting for its first major storm of the season, it's a good time to brush up on winter driving. "Winter is going to hit us at some point here," Dubbe said.
