OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) - It's going to be a wheel-y special Christmas for 1,001 Oklahoma children. They'll be receiving bikes, thanks to a donor raising enough money to put the brakes on financial burdens for Christmas. "A bike for Christmas is still the best gift a kid could ever get," said Scooter Proctor, the generous donor and fundraiser. LOCAL NEWS: Families feel ‘holiday spirit’ during Midwest City Shop with a Cop Everyone remembers their first bike. "Just the joys that I had, a little bike growing up, to be able to share that. Important," said Sheriff Tommie Johnson III of Oklahoma County. "I remember exactly when I got it," said Proctor. "I remember seeing my dad roll it around the back of the house." Now, 1,001 low-income children will create their own memories. "There'll be a lot of bikes under trees this year," said Proctor. A few years ago, Proctor had the idea. He raised money for about 50 bicycles. It's been a tireless effort. This year, he shifted it into high gear. "Now, we hit 1001 bicycles," Proctor said. LOCAL NEWS: OKCPD and kids participate in annual Shop With A Cop event There were so many, they had to bring in several trucks outside the Walmart in Southwest OKC. The bikes will be given to organizations, police departments, and sheriff's offices to be handed out. "It's really a good gift that keeps on giving," said Sheriff Johnson. "It's hard to put into words. It's very special." Proctor hopes this will create a chain reaction of kindness. "It just gives you hope that there are still people that care. And when it comes to kids, when it comes to Christmas, they just seem to open their hearts and their wallets," said Proctor.
