Westwego woman sentenced in government funds theft case

WESTWEGO, La. (WGNO) — A Westwego woman has been sentenced in a theft of government funds case.
The Office of U.S. Attorney Duane Evans reported that 50-year-old Penelope Passero was sentenced for theft of government funds on Tuesday, Dec. 10.
Lutcher teacher arrested, accused of sexual battery
Court documents state Passero "knowingly accessed and converted" more than $59,000 in social security and CARES Act funds from February 2016 to December 2020.
Passero pled guilty to her charge in the case on Aug. 27.
On Tuesday, a judge sentenced Passero to time served, three years of supervised release, a mandatory $100 fee and to pay $59,320 in restitution.
