Free training sessions for Great Aloha Run available

HONOLULU (KHON2) -- The Mid-Pacific Road Runners Club has teamed up with the Great Aloha Run to offer a free training program for anyone preparing for the race. Each session includes a warm-up talk, stretching, goal-setting, group training runs based on pace, and a cool-down.

The 8-week program starts Sunday, Dec. 15, From 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Kapiolani Park Bandstand. Participants can choose from several pace groups to train with others at a similar speed.
"In-Training Workshops include stretching, goal-setting discussion and breakout groups (led by volunteer leaders) based on pace. Groups focus on building distance and speed. Participation is free but pre-registration is required." said Naomi Morita, Lead Coach of the Great Aloha Run In Training Workshop.

The Great Aloha Run has divisions for avid runners, age groups, wheelchairs, handcycle competitors, military, and those who want to walk the course with friends and socialize along the way. The 41st edition of the event will be held on February 17th.
According to GAR, participants can now register to run the 8.15-mile foot race, which starts at Aloha Tower and ends at Aloha Stadium. Continuing its Hawaii Tradition for over 40-years, participants can run, walk, and support dozens of local charities.
"To date the Great Aloha Run has raised more than $17 million for over 150 Hawaii community organizations; in fact, last year alone the Great Aloha Run distributed $80,000 to more than 30 local groups statewide. Help us continue this healthy tradition that gives back to our people!" said Carole Kai Onouye.
