FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) -- While Friday the 13th is usually synonymous with bad luck or other superstitions, those looking to get a tattoo can welcome the day with open arms. In what has become an industry tradition for many tattoo parlors, shops offer big savings on a tailored selection of tattoos on Friday the 13th, which happens 1-3 times in a given year. Mick Mickelini, co-owner of Freedom Tattoo in northwest Fort Wayne, said the tradition offers an easy avenue for those who are either uncertain about getting a tattoo or are scared off by the costs. "I think it's great that at least a couple of times a year we can lower our prices a little bit and give people more of an opportunity to kind of check out our styles and get it for a really good price," Mickelini said. "We'll already work with budgets to begin with, but for the most part, you're not going to be able to get a tattoo that's worth $400 or lower for $60 on any given day." While each shop offers their own types of deals, Freedom Tattoo is offering a selection of tattoos anywhere from $60 to $100, which are more than half off the normal price. Other places, such as Modern Primitive, are offering smaller tattoos at $13. "Most of the tattoos that are up there are worth more than $200," Mickelini said. In past years, Mickelini has seen more than 50 people visit his shop for Friday the 13th deals, and he said other places that offer smaller tattoos at lower prices likely see hundreds of customers coming for the sale. "I salute those 'tat' soldiers out in the field today working their butts off," Mickelini said. Outside of Friday the 13th, Mickelini hopes people who want to get a tattoo understand many places are accommodating and want to see those people end up with one. "If you ever have a budget at all, don't ever hesitate to ask your tattoo [artist] to work with it," Mickelini said. "Friday the 13th doesn't have to be the only day that you're getting a tattoo."
