BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — One person was arrested after a school bus stolen from East Baton Rouge Parish was found in a marsh in Plaquemines Parish on Friday.
Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office Cpt. Chaun Domingue said the agency learned about the stolen school bus Friday morning. A brief pursuit ensued on the east bank of Plaquemines Parish and ended near the Belair pumping station when the suspect reportedly struck a parked vehicle and fled on foot into a nearby marsh.
Deputies mobilized boats and the PPSO Air-1 helicopter to track the suspect through the marsh. Domingue said the suspect was apprehended without further incident.
No injuries were reported during the pursuit or arrest, and the investigation remains ongoing. The identity of the suspect and details of the criminal charges will be released at a later time, the sheriff's office said.
A spokesperson for the East Baton Rouge Parish School System said the bus was stolen earlier this week.
