Police arrest man in connection to 2005 murder of woman in Southeast DC

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) said a man was arrested in connection to the murder of a woman in Southeast D.C. that happened 19 years ago.
On Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 24, 2005, around 9 p.m., MPD and DC Fire and EMS responded to an apartment in the 1200 block of Valley Avenue for a structure fire.
First responders found 23-year-old Makia Mosby of Southeast, D.C., inside the apartment, who had been shot and burned.

Mosby died at the scene.
After the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner completed an autopsy, the staff determined that her death was a homicide.
For nearly two decades, MPD's Major Case Squad worked and followed up on multiple leads. Police said the investigation led detectives to a DC Superior Court indictment and on Dec. 12, 2024, 53-year-old Michael Wells of Southeast, D.C. was arrested.
He was taken to the Homicide Branch where he was charged with First Degree Murder.
