Second Chance saved over 55,000 pets in 2024

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - More than 55,000 pets have been helped this year by Second Chance Animal Services.
It's a new record for the nonprofit whose mission is to improve the lives of animals. Seven-year-old Roxie, a Shepherd mix, who's one of Second Chance's longest residents, is looking for a home for the holidays.

The nonprofit is also encouraging people to consider becoming 'Monthly-Pet-Pal-Champions' by signing up for recurring donations. Those donations will help the shelter when responding to animal emergencies.
“This year, we’ve already surpassed 55,000 pets helped—and the year isn’t even over,” said CEO and Founder Sheryl Blancato. “It’s both inspiring and sobering. Inspiring because our supporters are helping us make such a difference and sobering because the demand for help keeps growing. Every day, we see firsthand the financial strain families are under and the toll it’s taking on pets.”
“We continue to see more pet owners than ever rely on subsidized rates to keep their pets healthy. At the same time, shelters nationwide remain at capacity. We’re taking in as many pets as possible while also preventing surrenders by helping struggling families access care and resources.”
“Your support makes it all possible,” Blancato said. “Every dollar directly helps pets—whether it’s keeping a beloved pet with their family or saving the life of an animal in critical need. Together, we are transforming lives, one pet at a time.”
