RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The Branch Museum of Architecture and Design is opening its doors for its Holiday Open House on Saturday, Dec. 14 and Sunday, Dec. 15 from noon to 5 p.m. The Branch Museum, located at 2501 Monument Avenue in Richmond, will be decked out in holiday decorations. Families will find free hourly guided tours, a hot cocoa station and holiday crafts. The open house is free and open to the public. "The Branch House was actually built to be a holiday home. So, we are revitalizing it back to its former glory," Lucy Northup, the museum's marketing director told 8News. Northup said the house was originally built in 1919, and was the holiday home for John and Beula Branch. "They spent November through February every year here in the Branch House. So, they knew how to throw big Christmas parties. They would have giant soirees. This house was built for entertaining and to show off their extensive art collection. So, they'd have big parties. They'd invite the whole family in here. This house has 19 bedrooms, so they really invited the whole Branch family to come and celebrate," Northup said. The house is listed on the Virginia Landmarks Register and the National Register of Historic Places. More information about the holiday open house and the museum can be found on The Branch Museum's website.
