POWHATAN COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Looking to spend time in nature this weekend? Folks can take a guided walk while birding at Powhatan State Park Saturday morning. The event will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14, with the group meeting at the equestrian parking area. Attendees will walk with a ranger while admiring birds. Since it's winter, attendees may see winter migrants as well as other species that stay in the state year-round. Visitors will also learn about the birds' winter survival tactics and practice their identification skills by taking note of their appearance, song, behavior and more. Organizers said the walk will be up to one mile at an easy pace on mostly flat terrain. Anyone with binoculars is recommended to bring them. If not, there will be a few pairs that can be borrowed. Trails can sometimes be muddy, so folks should dress accordingly. For more information, visit the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation's website.
