South Kingstown police continue to investigate accident involving pedestrian

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WLNE) — South Kingstown Police said an individual is recovering in the hospital after they were hit by a car on Wednesday.
The incident happened around 7 a.m. when officials responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle in the area of 116 Main Street.
Police said the pedestrian sustained serious injuries and was transported to Rhode Island Hospital by South Kingstown Emergency Medical Services.
They’re currently recovering at Rhode Island Hospital.
However, police said at this time, no criminal or motor vehicle charges have been filed against the operator of the vehicle.
Officials said that preliminary findings indicate the pedestrian was walking in the roadway and was not in a crosswalk.
“The South Kingstown Police Department reminds pedestrians to be visible to drivers before entering the roadway and to always use crosswalks whenever available. Motorists are advised to adhere to speed limits, avoid distractions, and ensure that pedestrians can see them,” a release stated.
