FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) -- A Fort Wayne woman was sentenced in federal court Thursday, after pleading guilty to wire fraud in a COVID relief scam in 2021. 33-year-old, Dora T. Boyd of Fort Wayne was sentenced to 50 months in prison followed by two years of supervised release after she applied for the Emergency Rental Assistance Program, acting as a landlord in 2021. Investigators determined that from March through November, Boyd submitted 30 false applications to the City of Fort Wayne where she claimed to be a landlord for multiple tenants in Fort Wayne. In the application, Boyd included fake leases and tax documents attempting to steal over $400,000 in assistance money. Boyd was only able to receive $166,292 and she was ordered by the court to pay this money back in restitution. This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Office of Inspector General for the United States Department of Treasury, and the City of Fort Wayne Office of Housing and Neighborhood Services.
