City of Minot offers free disposal of extra trash and trees at landfill
Dec 13, 2024
MINOT, ND (KXNET) — Free dumping at the Minot City Landfill will be available to sanitation customers during the holidays.
The specific dates will start on December 23 and end on January 4, and it'll be available for household waste.
City of Minot Sanitation Superintendent Josh Kraft says in a news release that residents who get city sanitation services can bring their trash to the landfill for free — all they have to do is bring a current water bill for verification.
However, before going to the landfill, residents should separate their recyclables from non-recyclables.
Kraft says attendants at the landfill scale will be able to direct them to the correct locations to drop off both items.
As a reminder, wrapping paper, extension cords, and Christmas lights are not recyclable. They should, instead, be put in residential garbage containers.
How concerned are North Dakotans about e-waste?
The landfill will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on December 23, but will be closed on December 24 and 25, and January 1. Regular hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. will be on December 26 and again on January 2.
Residential garbage collection will not be taking place on December 24, and the next collection day for Tuesday/Friday customers will be on December 27. However, all other garbage and recycling collections will run as scheduled.
Minot will have designated dumpsters at two different locations between December 18 and January 18 to help sanitation customers toss out their real Christmas trees.
One dumpster will be at Site #7 (16th St SW and 16th Ave SW), and the other dumpster will be at Site #3 (11th St NW and 4th Ave NW). There will be signs on the dumpsters to identify them as being for real trees only — stands, lights, ornaments, and bags must be removed before they are put in the dumpster.
If you are unable to bring it to a dumpster, the city will pick up trees that are placed near residential garbage or recycling carts.
