Furry Friends Friday: Two guinea pigs up for adoption in Baton Rouge
Dec 13, 2024
BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) -- Wendy Lincoln of Magic Happens Rabbit Rescue introduced two adorable guinea pigs up for adoption.
Goober, a 3-year-old multi-colored Abyssinian breed guinea pig, is looking for a new home. He is entering his senior years. Guinea pig life spans are about five to seven years.
Pitka is a female Crested American Shorthair breed guinea pig who is about 2 years old.
These two piggies are a bonded pair so they will need to be adopted together. Their adoption fee is $60. Anyone who wants to adopt a guinea pig should always have another guinea pig companion for them.
If you're considering adopting a guinea pig, Lincoln said these pets need a lot of space to run around. They eat plenty of hay and treats that are safe for guinea pigs. She said they should not be kept in kids' bedrooms because a lack of supervision can be unsafe.
Guinea pigs, like rabbits, hide their illnesses/pain. Owners should pay close attention to their guinea pigs and know their behaviors.
Proper pet ownership involves getting to know your pets well, feeding them the right food and plenty of water and giving them a lot of love.

If you can't adopt at this time, consider fostering. Magic Happens Rabbit Rescue like other rescues, foster-based groups and shelters around south Louisiana are full. Fostering a pet not only gives the animal a chance to get acclimated to living with a family but also helps the rescue organization. If you want to adopt these two guinea pigs or try fostering, visit their website to fill out an application.
