Man sentenced to probation in hitandrun crash that killed Baton Rouge woman

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) -- A man who pleaded guilty in connection to a hit-and-run that left a woman dead was sentenced to three years of probation.
Jacob Knazs, 23, pleaded guilty to a charge of hit and run driving victim suffers serious injury or death in mid-October. Court documents show he will be under supervised probation, pay $5,000 in restitution and do 200 hours of community service.
Arrest documents about the March 2023 incident said a pedestrian identified as Breunkia Janaye Collins, 32, of Baton Rouge, was hit by a car driven by Knazs on S. Sherwood Forest Boulevard. Collins died from her injuries in the hospital a day after the crash. Knazs reportedly fled the scene.
He turned himself in to the police days after the crash.
