Springfield School Committee holds another input session about onsite cameras

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The Springfield School Committee held another input session on Thursday.
Fire causes severe damage to home in Springfield
They heard concerns regarding the security camera agreement with Springfield Public Schools and the Springfield Police Department.
"In a emergency situation being able to save seconds, never mind minutes is paramount. If we're able to point the first responders in the direction of where the emergency is, it's going to save time and it's going to save lives" says Adem Fenn, Director of Safety & Security for Springfield Public Schools.
The camera agreement has yet to be renewed with the city's police department.
The input session was held to consider the public's concerns ahead of drafting a new agreement.
Several students claim the language used in the current agreement needs to be adjusted.
Others were concerned about privacy when discussing the on-site cameras.
The in-school cameras can only be accessed in the event of an emergency such as a bomb threat or active shooter.
Springfield Public School Superintendent says she recognized and applauded students for speaking out and voicing their concerns.
An updated draft of the agreement is expected to be done by the end of January.
