NEW HAVEN, CT.– Saturday marks the 12th anniversary of the Sandy Hook Elementary deadly mass shooting in Connecticut. On December 14th, 2012, a gunman killed six adults and twenty students at the school in Newton. The shooter killed his mother earlier in the day and after the massacre, he committed suicide. Ahead of the anniversary, survivors and other gun violence victims traveled to Capitol Hill on Thursday. The group pushed congress to pass new gun safety laws. Since the tragedy, Connecticut schools have spent millions of dollars hardening security. The Safer Communities Act was the first major gun law passed in two decades. It provided more than 300 million dollars nationwide to school safety.
