Kern County officials break ground at Auburn Vista Apartments
Dec 12, 2024
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- City leaders and the development company Chelsea Investment Corporation gathered Dec. 12 at a new complex called Auburn Vista Apartments.
The three-story building will offer 60 apartment homes designated for low-income farmworkers, and the complex will also feature a community room, an after-school program for kids, as well as adult education and skill-building classes.
Woolworth’s ambitious renovation is loud, proud and on schedule
Leaders tell us the goal is improving the lives of local farmworkers.
"Bakersfield's an up and coming city. Economic success, doing well, seat of Kern County. Prices have gone up and it's very expensive for families to afford housing," said Jim Andersen, Chelsea Investment Corporation chief development officer. "To target families, in particular, and farmworker families specifically, is an exciting thing. This is the breadbasket of Kern County and we are really excited to be able to support that."
Funding from this project comes in part from a city measure earmarked for reducing homelessness. Construction is expected to wrap a little over a year from now.
