Two people sentenced to prison for violent crime spree

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- A man and woman were sentenced to prison for their roles in a crime spree last year that lasted two days in multiple parts of San Diego County.
Calvin Brown, 27, was sentenced to 59 years and eight months, while Rolaena Blunt, 20, was sentenced to 10 years and eight months in prison, Summer Stephan with the San Diego County District Attorney's Office said in a news release Thursday.
Brown was convicted of four separate carjackings at gunpoint, assault with a semi-automatic firearm on eight victims at three separate locations, animal abuse, robbery, hit-and-run causing permanent serious injury, and other felony crimes. Blunt pleaded guilty to assault with a semi-automatic firearm on two victims, and a separate robbery and carjacking.
In the early hours of July 3, 2023, Brown carjacked a BMW at gunpoint in downtown San Diego. He then led police on a chase at over 90 miles per hour.
Two days later in Imperial Beach, Brown and Blunt drove the carjacked BMW to a home where Brown shot a woman and dog, according to prosecutors.
Following that incident, the two suspects drove to a business on El Cajon Boulevard. Blunt stole items while Brown shot at employees who tried to stop the theft.
Both left the scene of the robbery. While they were on Interstate 805 traveling over 140 miles per hour, Brown crashed into two vehicles, causing one of the cars to flip over multiple times and seriously hurting a 12-year-old girl.
Brown and Blunt then abandoned the stolen BMW, ran off the freeway, carjacked a second car at gunpoint and drove to Encinitas, where they abandoned the second car, carjacked a third car at gunpoint and shot at the last carjacking victim during the pursuit.
Citizens contacted police about Brown and Blunt's location at a fitness center in Encinitas where they apprehended them.
