WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) - Day one of The Salvation Army's Angel Tree distribution is in the books. With Christmas less than two weeks away, many are rushing to get the perfect gifts for their loved ones, but not everyone has the means to give. That's where The Salvation Army steps in. "We can't do what we do without the help of this community. These toys show so much love to kids who may not have anything under the tree this year and to families who may be on hard times, and they just can't provide, so this means the world to them," said Jami Scott, the social services director for The Salvation Army South Central Kansas. The names of around 9,000 children and their wish lists were on Angel Trees in Sedgwick County.Community members and businesses bought toys and other items on children's wish lists so they will have something special under the tree. "It's so much fun when people let us know that what's in the bag was exactly what was asked of their child. It just so many people just cannot believe the generosity of this community," said Scott. Angel Tree gift distribution continues on Friday. Families who are signed up should have received a card and text messages telling them when to pick up their presents.
