FOUNTAIN COUNTY, Ind. — Indiana State Police are investigating after a crash in Fountain County on I-74 left a person dead on Thursday. According to a press release, ISP troopers responded around 4:30 p.m. to a crash on Interstate 74 eastbound near the 23-mile marker. During a preliminary investigation, they found that a 2004 Ford F-150 was traveling westbound on I-74 when the vehicle lost control for an unknown reason. The Ford then crossed the median, rolled over and entered the eastbound lanes of the interstate, ISP said. Then, a semi-truck and trailer collided with the vehicle. The semi came to rest in the ditch on the south side of the road, while ISP said the F-150 came to rest in the left lane of the eastbound side. Per police, the F-150 became engulfed in flames shortly after it stopped. Meanwhile, the semi-truck driver was entrapped in the vehicle and required extraction by the fire department. The driver of the vehicle was entrapped and pronounced dead at the scene by the Fountain County Coroner. The semi-truck driver was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, ISP wrote. The crash remains under investigation at this time.
