One person died, and another was critically injured, in a plane crash on I-684 Thursday near the town of Harrison in Westchester County, New York State Police said. Troopers responded to reports of a small plane crash near Exit 2 — which is the exit for Westchester County Airport — on the interstate around 7 p.m. “The preliminary investigation has determined there were two individuals on the plane, and one is confirmed deceased,” police said in a statement Thursday night. “Further information will be provided when it’s available.” Interstate 684 remains closed in both directions with detours in place, causing major delays around Armonk and White Plains. There is no estimated time for the interstate to reopen. The deceased person was described as a passenger on the aircraft, believed to be a single-engine, two-seat TECNAM P2008. Another person in the plane survived the crash, but is in critical condition at Westchester Medical Center. Neither victim’s identity was released. No other injuries were reported. The plane took off from Linden, N.J. and was flying north along the Hudson River when it started rapidly losing altitude. The pilot made a hard right turn toward White Plains Airport and declared an emergency before crashing. High wind warnings were in effect across the region on Thursday. The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating.
