FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - A quick round of arctic air has brought bitter cold and light snow to northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio. You'll want to bundle up and watch out for slick spots on the roads as you're heading out and about. Fort Wayne Fire Department gives space heater safety tips An arctic cold front has brought strong winds to the area. Our highest wind report has been 52 mph at the Fort Wayne International Airport. Other locations that saw gusts in the 40 mph range include Van Wert, Portland, Huntington, and Marion. Strong wind gusts were reported on both Wednesday and Thursday. As a result of these gusty winds, wind chill values were as low as the double digits below zero yesterday and today. Ligonier recorded the lowest wind chill of -13° early this morning. Our lowest wind chills Wednesday and Thursday were double digits below zero. Remember to take it easy this evening through tomorrow morning as we deal with this cold air. Limit your time outside, dress in multiple layers, drip your faucets at home to prevent frozen pipes, and check on your neighbors. Here are some safety tips when it is bitterly cold outside. We have also seen some light snow accumulations as we've dealt with the cold. Fort Wayne has only picked up two tenths of an inch of snow both yesterday and today, but there's still a chance more snow is accumulated from Fort Wayne and south this evening, as a fast-moving weather system passes through. Light snow was recorded both Wednesday and Thursday. Incredibly, we're now up to our second longest streak ever without a snowfall of three or more inches in Fort Wayne, as we have gone nearly 700 days! This is the second longest stretch between three inch or greater snows in Fort Wayne's history. Our pattern is set to turn more mild again as we progress into the weekend, so there's no sign of us getting a bigger snow anytime soon... A warmer airmass returns this weekend. Stay warm and visit our WANE 15 Weather Page to track the temperatures into the weekend.
