God, food, and immigration weigh on Trenton residents (L.A. PARKER COLUMN)

Pastor John Ferrara aka Pastor Johnny, observed a line of people waiting for free food inside Trenton’s Unity Park recently.
Seventy-five turkeys had distributed in seemingly no time flat but a variety of fruits, vegetables, and other food items kept people coming until the pre-Thanksgiving day, three-hour, food insecurity fighting initiative ended.
“God is good,” Ferrara said during an impromptu introduction. Ferrara, a preaching member of the Fountain of Life Center family with religious outreaches in Burlington and Trenton, heard then sidestepped an inquiry about the future of such deliveries, many of which attract unauthorized people as congregants, if President-elect Donald Trump begins his promised largest U.S. deportation known to mankind project.
Inevitably, persons of interest without papers will have to decide the risk potential of standing in line for food like sitting ducks. Imagine losing incomplete, shadowy, low-waged freedom for free string beans, potatoes, and avocados.
“We preach the messages of Jesus, that’s our harp. No matter the circumstances, we continue to preach the Word of Jesus and to allow the Lord to do what he does,” Pastor Johnny, praised.
“No doubt, the need is great. We partner with Blessings of Hope (near Lancaster, Pa.) to make this outreach happen. They drive the food here while we pay minimal fees to have the food brought to Trenton. Our team sets up all the stations with help from volunteers. We use a lot of social media to get the word out about us being here, which amounts to four times a year.”
Pastor Johnny then fielded the question he had displaced earlier. What’s on the horizon regarding immigration reform and deportation?
“They’re (The Feds are) going to come and things are going to happen, likely quickly,” Pastor Johnny predicted.
“In the midst of whatever occurs, we know that God is good and that he keeps us going. We don’t worry about things we have no control over. It’s in his hands.”
