WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- A D.C. police officer shot and killed a dog Wednesday evening.
The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) said just after 6 p.m., officers were called to a "domestic disturbance" in the 6700 block of Piney Branch Road in Northwest.

A spokesperson with MPD told DC News Now that when they arrived at the scene, a dog "charged at the officers" and bit one of them.
According to the spokesperson, at least one officer discharged their service weapon and shot the dog.
The dog died there.
One officer was taken to the hospital for treatment.
The shooting is being investigated.
