Breast Cancer Coalition looking to award two grants for research

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — The Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester has two grants it's looking to award for research.
Leaders at the BCCR said researchers affiliated with both for-profit and nonprofit institutions in New York State can apply. The grants are $50,000 and $25,000 respectively. As part of the review process, each proposal is assigned to two scientific experts and two breast cancer survivor advocates who are expected to review and score each project based on a specific set of criteria established by the coalition.
Leaders said past recipients have gone on to receive funding from other major institutions like the National Institutes of Health.
"We also love to keep in touch with our researchers. They become very ingrained in the coalition culture. They love to just give feedback on how much the research meant to them - but also getting to know our staff and survivors as well," said Christina Thompson, executive director of BCCR.

For more than two decades the BCCR has awarded grants to projects with the potential to create medical breakthroughs. To date, the coalition has awarded more than $1.1 million toward breast cancer research.
