MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - Two drivers were pulled over for shining their holiday spirit a little too bright for Madera County roads, the Madera California Highway Patrol announced Wednesday.
Photos provided by CHP show a traffic stop for two vehicles showered in holiday lights.
As mesmerizing as these lights may be, officers say it is not legal. These kinds of festive lights can mimic emergency vehicles and confuse motorists.
Is driving with multi-colored lights on your car illegal in California?
Additionally, the law states only emergency vehicles can display a steady burning red warning lamp visible from the front. All other vehicles can only display a white or amber light on the front.
Officers say the only times these multi-colored masterpieces can be displayed legally are on private property and parades.
CHP says the drivers pulled over were displaying the decorative lights while driving on the road and were subsequently educated about the law.
