CHULA VISTA, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) -- San Diego County is hoping to attract new film production projects in Southern California with the addition of a new entertainment complex based in the South Bay.
The Chula Vista City Council unanimously approved a letter of intent Tuesday to build film production facilities within its new Millenia Library.

In a release Wednesday, the city announced the Chula Vista Entertainment Complex will be a 75,000-square-foot project that will be constructed over three phases. Upon completion, the CVEC is expected to rein in $545 million in economic development to Chula Vista in the next decade.
The founder and CEO, Aaron David Roberts, said it will be accessible to filmmakers, creators and businesses of all sizes, with a focus on not just revitalizing the local economy but also putting "San Diego County back on the map as a powerhouse for media and innovation."

Phase one of the project will include building video editing bays and sound effect facilities, audio post-production studios, and coworking and office space in the library building.
The library, which is currently being built at 1775 Millenia Ave., is the city’s newest library in nearly three decades and is expected to be the largest at 168,000 square feet.
Also on Tuesday, the city approved a letter of intent from San Diego State University to bring its nursing and Global Campus programs to the lower level of the library.
In the second phase of the project, the company plans to develop a virtual production studio campus that spans approximately 89,600 square feet on a nearly five-acre portion of the lot, the city said.
Additional production studios could be built during Phase 3, which will also involve the development of "any combination of film/arts/entertainment-themed commercial, retail, hotel and parking," according to the statement.
"The Hollywood model is broken -- and CVEC is here to change that," Roberts said in the release.
