Pedestrian dead after hitandrun in south Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) - A pedestrian is dead after a hit-and-run in south Wichita.
It happened around 6 p.m. near the intersection of South Washington Avenue and East Mount Vernon Street.
According to the Wichita Police Department, it appears that a 48-year-old man was crossing the street on Mount Vernon, just west of Washington, when he was struck by a silver/gray sedan.
"It's dark and maybe not well-lit. It's a residential neighborhood here. So, you know, you gotta slow down and look for folks," said WPD Lt. Lee Eisenbise.
The sedan left the scene westbound on Mount Vernon.
"We're asking for anybody who have may seen or heard something to contact us so we can investigate. We're asking for the driver to come forward and talk to us," said Lt. Eisenbise. "We just wanna talk to the people involved in the accident and figure out what happened."
If anyone has any information, they are asked to call 911 or contact Crime Stoppers by calling 316-267-2111, submitting a tip online, or submitting a tip through their mobile app, which is available through Google Play and Apple's App Store.
Police will remain on the scene for quite a while.
