TOPEKA (KSNT) - A metal engineering business in the capital city will soon create 300 new jobs for local workers. The Topeka and Shawnee County's Joint Economic Development Organization (JEDO) voted on Wednesday, Dec. 11 to invest a total incentive of $216,000 in Haas Metal Engineering Inc. (HME). The Topeka-based construction company has been specializing in structural steel solutions for more than 25 years, according to a news release from GO Topeka. According to the Greater Topeka Partnership, the capital investment for HME is $57 million. "On behalf of the HME Group, I want to express our gratitude to GO Topeka and JEDO for their continued support," said Angela Ayala with HME. "This incentive is more than just financial support-it is a testament to the shared vision we have for Topeka and Shawnee County. Together, we are building a community of opportunity, where both businesses and employees have the resources they need to succeed. As we kick off this expansion, we look forward to continuing this partnership and delivering on our commitment to making a positive impact in Topeka." This project, previously known as "Project Finish Line", will expand HME, bringing in an expected 300 new jobs along with a manufacturing facility at the business's location. According to the news release, JEDO is primarily investing in job creation and associated training for HME, as well as supporting property and equipment. This expansion project is expected to generate a $1.2 billion economic impact, representing a 171% return on investment for the community, according to the news release. City expects Hotel Topeka will see nearly $900,000 net loss in 2025 "HME's growth is not just a win for the company but for all of the Topeka area," said Molly Howey, president of GO Topeka. "This project reflects the hard work and commitment of a business that is deeply rooted in our community. The jobs being created will no doubt contribute to local economic prosperity for years to come." For more local news, click here.
