Savannah State women looking forward to health in the New Year
Dec 11, 2024
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — Savannah State is off to a 4-4 start on the year, but they are 0-2 in the conference. This is surprising because they were picked to win the East Division of the SIAC.
Coach Cedric Baker says the Lady Tigers are not at full strength. He counts four key contributors who are out because of injury/ He expects to get those potential starters back after the new year.
In the interim, a lot of younger players have stepped up.
This weekend, Savannah State will continue conference play with a home series against Lemoyne-Owen and Lane College.
"They'll inject themselves right away," Baker said. "They're basketball players. They love it. So at this level on the shot clock, it's what you can do between one and five on the shot clock. And they all have great individual skills and team-wise. The communication, defensive and offensive systems really haven't changed over the years since I've been here."
The Lady Tigers look to pick up their first conference win of the season this Saturday against Lemonyne-Owen. The tipoff is at 5:30 p.m.
