UTEP men fall short to Louisville 7774

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The UTEP men's basketball team suffered a 77-74 loss to Louisville in a closely-contested game at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Kentucky on Wednesday night.

Down 77-74 in the last seconds of the game, UTEP's Corey Camper Jr. had a good look on his game-tying three point shot attempt but the shot did not go in. Time expired and Louisville secured the win to snap its 3-game losing streak.
Meanwhile, UTEP saw its 3-game winning streak come to an end.
UTEP lost the rebounding battle 40-29. Another category UTEP lost heavily to Louisville in was free throws. Louisville shot 25-of-34 from the free throw line, while UTEP shot 7-of-11. Major difference in free throws in the contest.
UTEP shot 51% (29-57) from the field and 45% (9-20) from three. Louisville shot 40% (23-58) from the floor and 18% (6-34) from three.
UTEP's leading scorer in the game was Corey Camper Jr. He scored 19 points on 7-of-13 shooting from the floor.
Devon Barnes scored 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the floor in 29 minutes played.

The only other Miners player to reach double figures in scoring in the contest was Ahamad Bynum, as he scored 14 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field and 4-of-5 shooting from three-point land.
Bynum is 23-of-35 (65.7%) from three after the game against Louisville.
The game was back and forth the whole way. Neither team held a lead bigger than eight points and there were 10 ties, and 13 lead changes throughout the contest.
UTEP led 36-32 at halftime and built up its biggest lead of the game when it led 43-36 with 17:26 left in the game.

Louisville then went on an 8-2 run to take a 46-45 lead with 14:16 left. After nine lead changes, Louisville ended up building itself a 63-55 lead with 7:38 left in the contest. That was Louisville's largest lead of the game.
With 46 seconds left in the game, UTEP trailed by one point after a made midrange jump shot by Devon Barnes made it a 73-72 game.
Very next possesion, UTEP gave up a dunk by James Scott to make it a 75-72 game with 18 seconds left. UTEP countered back with a Kevin Kalu putback dunk on the other game to make it 75-74 with eight seconds.
UTEP then had to foul Louisville on the ensuing inbounds. Reyne Smith nailed both free throws to make it a three-point game. Camper Jr. then went onto to miss the three-pointer to tie the game.
