COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO) — What will the economy look like next year for South Carolina?
Each year, the University of South Carolina’s Darla Moore School of Business partners with the state chamber of commerce to release an economic forecast for the upcoming year.
Despite listing positive indicators, USC’s Dr. Joey Von Nessen says that South Carolina’s economy is still in recovery mode.
This past year has also seen a cooling of the state’s labor market. South Carolina’s unemployment rate increased from 3 percent to its current level of 4.7 percent.
Dr. Von Nessen says the greatest threat to South Carolina’s economy is the possibility of rebounding inflation.
There have also been questions about how president elect Donald Trump’s international trade policies, including proposed new tariffs, will impact the nation’s economy. Dr. Douglas Woodward believes that tariffs could increase prices of goods but could also benefit South Carolina manufacturing.
