BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Louisiana Congressman Clay Higgins (R-La.) wrote about the attempted assassination of President-elect Donald Trump. On July 13, Trump was the intended target of an assassination attempt at one of his campaign rallies in Butler, Pennsylvania. Local police stopped the suspect, Thomas Crooks, before the Secret Service reportedly killed him. Higgins is a member of the House Homeland Security Committee, House Committee on Oversight and Accountability and House Armed Services. These committees were tasked with investigating the attempt and offering recommendations. The Task Force on the Attempted Assassination of Donald J. Trump released a 53-page document on the attempt with details revolving around the failures and sequence of events. Higgins' views were outlined in a 26-page document. In Higgins' report, he highlighted that he reviewed multiple videos and photos, some being from online sources prior to traveling to Butler County in Pennsylvania. Higgins' investigation reports that he believes the United States Secret Service never had a counter-sniper team for a President of the United States before Trump. The congressman used the videos and photos to determine the possibility and accuracy of the information that was given.
