BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- The holiday season brings out the need to give for many, and at Bakersfield Christian High School, giving back is now a tradition with Serve Day. "I'm going to CAPK to make food boxes for those in need," said Jude Cheshire. This third edition of Serve Day was on Wednesday, cementing it as Bakersfield tradition. Students visited 11 organizations across town, in the spirit of giving. "It was kind of an idea from our student life department, and the idea as to get our kids off campus serving in our community." said Matthew Guinn, President of Bakersfield Christian High School. Learning things that can't be taught in classrooms. "They learn about some of the needs that exist within our greater community and Kern County," said Guinn. Neighbor says he saw 2 men outside trailer home before deadly Edison Hwy fire "Learn hands-on experiences and what it's like to really help someone...and how that really impacts someone's life," said Cheshire. A job Jude takes seriously. "I just want to do a good job, make sure that I pack everything correctly," said Cheshire. "Don't mess anything up or break anything." Dedication he learned from someone special in his life. "Definitely my mother, she works so hard for me to make sure that everyone feels very loved and very connected," said Cheshire. Hoping he can send some of that love to every family that receives these boxes.
