Jeff Hanisch-Imagn Images The Detroit Lions released their Week 15 initial injury report and they returned multiple starters to practice on Wednesday. The Detroit Lions (12-1) are hosting the Buffalo Bills (10-3) in Week 15, and both teams are getting healthier ahead of this game. The Lions were able to dress all 53 players for the first time in several weeks, and while not all were fully participating on Wednesday—the Lions were in pads, so a few were held out for precautionary reasons—most are expected to practice on Thursday, setting Detroit up for a potentially massive influx of returning talent. Let’s take a look at Wednesday’s injury report and get you up to date with what we know. Note that any changes from last week’s report will be bolded. Injured reserve/return WR Kalif Raymond (hamstring) — injured reserve, eligible to return in Week 17 DL John Cominsky (MCL) — injured reserve, could return in the playoffs LB Alex Anzalone (forearm) — injured reserve, could return late season or playoffs LB Jalen Reeves-Maybin (neck) — injured reserve, eligible to return at any time CB Ennis Rakestraw (hamstring) — injured reserve, eligible to return in Week 16 S Ifeatu Melifonwu (finger) — injured reserve, eligible to return in Week 16 On Monday, coach Dan Campbell updated the statuses of several of the players on injured reserve, noting that the plan is to return Alex Anzalone and Kalif Raymond before the end of the season, to take a closer look at where Rakestraw and Melifonwu’s recovery progress is next week, and to continue monitoring Reeves-Maybin’s progress, acknowledging that it is slow going. No practice DT DJ Reader (shoulder) The Lions are always going to err on the side of caution when returning a veteran from injury, and shoulder injuries for linemen need a fair amount of attention. Reader is expected to return to practice on Thursday, which could be the necessary first step to returning to game action this week. He’ll still have to show the coaching staff he can handle the workload inside, but this is a positive step. Limited practice DL Josh Paschal (knee) — Returned to practice DL Levi Onwuzurike (hamstring) — Returned to practice Paschal was injured on Thanksgiving and missed last week’s game against the Packers but his return also indicates he is nearing a return to game action. In his place, Al-Quadin Muhammed filled in as a starter and has played above expectations. Onwuzurike was also injured against the Bears and missed the Packers game, and while there was some indication he might sit out Wednesday’s practice, he was able to find the field. If he is also able to return, the Lions' defense line depth could get deeper in a hurry. Full practice LT Taylor Decker (knee) — Returned to practice Alim McNeill (concussion) — injured in Week 14 On Monday, coach Dan Campbell said that he was “feeling better” about Decker’s ability to play this week, and after missing the last two games, the Lions starting left tackle was back on the practice field in full to start the week. Dan Skipper filled in admirably in Decker’s place and would be on call to step back in if Decker needed more time. “I think I should be good to go,” Decker told the media after practice. “But I’ll let the smart guys (medical team) do the smart guy stuff. But I feel much, much better. I feel pretty confident going into this one.” McNeill was removed from the Lions game against the Packers and was cleared of a concussion, but shortly after his return, he was removed again, and this time was pulled from the game and put in the NFL’s concussion protocol. McNeill was able to return to practice in full on Wednesday, indicating he is taking the proper steps toward being cleared and the team is expecting him to be ready to return to the field this week, assuming he does not suffer any setbacks. No longer listed on the injury report CB Carlton Davis (hand, knee) CB Emmanuel Moseley (hamstring) Davis was able to play without restriction against the Packers, and while his hand injury is still a bit of a lingering issue, it has not impacted his production. Since Week 9, Carlton Davis III is PFF's top-rated cornerback with an overall defensive grade of 83.1 (minimum 100 snaps). His coverage grade of 86.4 is also No. 1.He has an allowed passer rating of 56.3 over this stretch, better than all but 11 CBs.— Richard Silva (@rich_silva18) December 10, 2024 Bills' initial injury report The Bills held a walkthrough on Wednesday but were able to also return several players to practice.
