MARYLAND (DC News Now) -- Maryland Gov. Wes Moore announced his support Wednesday for the sale of beer and wine in grocery stores.
In a statement, Moore stated that "Maryland is one of only three states that bans the sale of beer in grocery stores and one of only ten that ban the sale of wine."
Maryland's neighboring states Virginia, Pennsylvania and West Virginia all allow some level of alcohol sales in grocery stores. Washington, D.C. also allows alcohol to be stocked on grocery store shelves.

Moore said that Maryland's ban results in "less consumer choice" and puts Maryland stores at a disadvantage.
Maryland Matters reported that while Moore would not include the legislation in his 2025 plan, he "wants something on my desk at the end of the session."
"Lifting this ban puts the consumers first, and ensures fair competition in the marketplace," Moore's Wednesday statement read.
