SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- The holiday season just got a little less stressful for hundreds of military families on Wednesday. The Armed Services YMCA put on their annual family toy gifting event with the help of some high-profile professional athletes. Known as Operation Holiday Joy, the yearly occurrence has been spreading cheer to military families in San Diego for 34 years. Ramona residents question SDG&E power shutoffs as thousands remain in dark “This is great it helps so much!” said one recipient at the event. The Armed Services YMCA and its partners have helped to bring part of Santa‘s workshop to Murphy Canyon. This is an event strictly for parents and guardians. The families will leave with two toys per child or a bike per child. They’ll also get a little mini Christmas tree, a turkey and then tacos.  Helping to build toys, or in this case bikes, were members from the Old Mission Beach Athletic Club, or OMBAC. Also helping military families pick out toys were some San Diego Padres, including Joe Musgrove Tom Cosgrove and Adrian Morejon, as well as play-by-play announcer Don Orsillo. They showed up to spread some holiday cheer to local military families.
