Update: Meta reported at 4:26 p.m. on Dec. 11 that the majority of its outage issues on Wednesday have been resolved. TOPEKA (KSNT) - Reports of the technology company Meta experiencing an outage with its social media platforms are rising Wednesday across the nation. The website Downdetector shows that around 82,000 reports of Facebook outages are being collected just after noon on Dec. 11. An outage map provided by Downdetector shows outages are being reported across the nation with a large number of them being reported near the population centers of Wichita, Chicago, Seattle, San Francisco, Phoenix, New York and Boston. “We’re aware that a technical issue is impacting some users’ ability to access our apps. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible and apologize for any inconvenience.” Statement from Meta at 12:53 p.m. on Dec. 11. Other Meta social media sites such as Instagram and WhatsApp are also being impacted by outages. Downdetector reports around 70,000 outages for Instagram while WhatsApp has just over 12,300 outages. "Hi, we know there's a technical issue impacting some people's ability to access Instagram. We're working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible and are sorry for any inconvenience."
