SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP)-- A local couple have been named as the Rotary Club of Springfield's "Service Above Self" award winners.
John and Brenda Sjoberg are familiar faces here in western Massachusetts. John is president and CEO of New England Business Machine, and Brenda is a communications professor at Western New England University, and of course, a one time anchor here at 22News.

"The one element of being a news anchor and being involved with 22News is that it allowed us, you and me both, to be introduced to the community in the most meaningful way, and so that meant not only covering the events but also getting involved and being a spokesperson, being an emcee, getting to know the community, and that opened up a door of volunteerism," remarked Brenda Sjoberg. "And after I left the station I continued with that."
John and Brenda's community involvement includes co-chairing the Jingle Bell Run to support the Special Olympics and the Gift of Light ceremony at Mercy Medical Center. They have also been directly involved with the Ronald McDonald House, Sisters of Providence, Link to Libraries, and the Spirit of Springfield, where John serves as board chairman.
"It's been actually just a labor of love for both of us and we're ticked by the fact that we're being recognized as a team, as a couple, because we have always supported each other's endeavors and organizations we've been involved with," said John Sjoberg.
The Sjoberg's will be honored alongside national honoree Allan Houston, the former New York Knick and founder of the Allan Houston Legacy Foundation that promotes youth mentoring and responsible fatherhood, with a focus on entrepreneurship and career development.
All of this under the motto "Service Above Self." The Sjoberg's will be honored at the Rotary Club of Springfield's Service above self luncheon on Thursday, December 12, at the Basketball Hall of Fame.
