"I think the worst part of it is, is that Michael tried to interfere, others might have tried to interfere and you committed the most heinous act against them for trying to break that up," said Judge Britt Baca. Judge Baca explained why she decided to sentence Eric ford the maximum amount of 26 years in prison.
In February of last year Eric ford was at a Circle K on the corner of Juan Tabo Blvd and Lomas Blvd. A witness said ford was causing a disturbance and got kicked out by the gas station clerk. Ford came back into the store and started beating up the clerk.
"There was no reason for him to attack this woman at all. She simply told him to leave the property. She's standing in the doorway, he turns around and punches her in the face," said John Kelly Smith. Then 24-year-old Michael Urioste confronted Ford to help the clerk. Eric ford's wife, Rosalynn Lee, then hit Urioste with a cane leading to Ford pulling a gun out and killing him. ford took a plea deal and plead guilty to second degree murder. 8 family members and friends spoke to ford about what he took away from Urioste's family.
"You took away our chance to finish growing up with our brother, we pray you get the maximum sentence possible as god may forgive you but we never willy," said Lina Urioste, sister of Urioste. "He took my son, my only child away from me and my family. And my family are left with the pain broken heart that will never heal," said Evette De Soto, mother of Uriste.
Ford also shot another innocent bystander sitting in her car. Ford's wife Rosalynn Lee was sentenced for 5 years for her role in the crime. Lee pled guilty to aggravated assault and battery.
