PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Attorney General Peter Neronha said a Johnston man was indicted Dec. 6 in connection to a house fire.
Steven Simone, 55, is charged with first degree arson and disorderly conduct, according to Johnston police.
On April 23, Johnston Fire and Police were sent to Peck Hill Road for an active house fire around 6 p.m..
At the scene, a home was engulfed in flames and the occupants were outside.
As crews were extinguishing the fire, Simone ran into a detached garage at the back of the property despite police commanding him not to interfere with the scene.
Officers followed Simone, causing the defendant to engage officers in a fighting stance.
Simone refused to exit the garage and was arrested.
An investigation determined the fire was consistent with arson.
Simone is scheduled to be arraigned on Dec. 18 in Providence County Superior Court.
